I tell stories.
Born and raised in the village of Harlem, I’m the middle child and older son of the late Roy C. Shuler, Sr. and Authoree E. Mitchell, both of Ridgeland, SC, a place where I spent more than a few summers as a child with my siblings, older sister, Lashanda Shuler-Hawkins and younger brother, Gary M. Shuler. I’m the effusively proud father of daughters Adrienne R. Minniefield, Esq. and Sydney N. Shuler, and son, Jordan. C. Shuler, and the ‘G-Pop’ to one granddaughter, Nylah O’Gilvie.
A true product of New York City, I was educated primarily at private schools in my native Harlem before attending and graduating from St. John’s University in Jamaica, NY. Armed with a strong interest in public speaking since childhood, during a particularly egregious moment in my corporate career in the early 2000s, I was challenged to explore what forums would be suitable for such a passion and talent. Auditing an acting class that Summer lit a fire in me that I chose not to extinguish. Several years later and after getting cast in non-speaking roles in a couple of regional commercials back in 2007 during an almost 16-year tenure as a resident of the Lehigh Valley area of Pennsylvania, following an audition in early 2008, I was cast in my first commercial as a principal (speaking) actor. A later foray into community theatre productions enabled me to blossom as an actor. A bold, faith-driven move back to my native Harlem in mid 2018 opened the doors to the mutli-hyphenated career that I’m beyond blessed to enjoy today.
A bit of an ‘old soul’ out of the gate, I’m one of the biggest Sam Cooke fans that you’ll ever meet, with Frank Sinatra a close second as my favorite vocalist. I enjoy cycling, a variety of fitness activities, watching and listening to live music of all types as often as possible, connecting with good friends for good times and stimulating conversations, walking the streets of my native Harlem, and garlicky, authentic, well-made Linguine Alla Vongole (Linguine with White Clam Sauce).
